Welcome to the American Predator Federation (APF) which is the home for all who share an interest in, or who's outdoor interests are impacted by, Americas fur bearing predators:
Trappers, predator callers, dog hunters, participants of all the other outdoor hunting sports, livestock growers, land or hunting lease owners and even the non-hunting community, hikers, backpackers, campers and even our family pets in our very own back yards.
The inspiration for the APF came from the believing that Americas fur bearing predators, and the skilled outdoorsmen and women that pursue them, need and deserve what nearly every other sport in America has, and that is a method for determining a parameter of size of each species which enables a trophy value. Boone and Crocket did the same for antlers, bear and cougar skulls, over a hundred plus years ago. What fathered their idea was a need for sound science. Pope and Young soon followed as did Safari Club International. The scientific value of the data bases that were created by these three great organizations and their dedicated members are invaluable towards the preservation of the sport as well as the proper management of each of their targeted species.
APF's goal is not to compete with the three established records data bases but to work in a complimentary fashion to their fine efforts. APF's Trophy Record Data Base will have two divisions; adult and youth. Each data base will have four subdivisions by manner of take: firearm, archery, trapping and all other means.
It is way past time for Americas predators to have the same extensive efforts shared towards their "value". It is past time for the skilled hunters, callers and trappers to have a way to measure a level of achievment, other than the total number harvested.
The popularity of hunting Americas predators has increased dramatically in the last several years. We, predators of predators, must form a pack which will enable us to protect and properly promote our favorite pastime.
The American Prederation Federation began the process, for non-profit organization and 501c3 paperwork in early July of 2009.
